The most difficult thing when it comes to book writing isn’t actually publishing the book; it’s getting started on writing. If this is your first time writing a book you probably are facing quite a few challenges as far as writing is concerned.
The good thing is that when you get the basics out of the way, writing the book becomes a lot easier later one. In order to help you out, here are 10 tips on how to start writing a book.
The number one thing you need to do is to come up with an idea about your book. This is probably the most difficult part of this process as your original idea is going to be the concept of your book and the factor that determines whether your book will be successful or not.
After you have decided on the idea for the general plot of your book, you should start expanding it. Imagine how the environment and the surroundings will be and at what time and age the story will take place. It doesn’t have to be fully developed yet. You just need to set the ground in order for you to start writing.
You do not need to fully develop your character’s personalities yet. All you need to do is give them a few basic characteristics that will determine their behavior and decisions later on in the story.
If you are using any information about characters that are based on real people or you are mentioning any real-life places, you should always make sure your information is valid.
At this stage, you should probably decide on how your story is going got unfold. You should try working on imagining the beginning, the end and any potential cliffhangers in the story.
Apart from the parts that require your imagination, you should always write using not only vocabulary but also ideas that will be appealing to the age group you are expecting to read your work.
If you still haven’t decided on how big or how small your book should be, you should try setting a realistic word count for each day and see if you are managing to write more or less than that.
After you have seen whether you are able to write much or not for a couple days, you should probably decide on how lengthy you would like your book to be. This will help you bring everything together and help you write more consistently without too much-unneeded blabbering.
It is very important that you find a place to write where you will be left undisturbed and able to focus solely on your writing. This will allow you to better form your ideas into words and make significant progress in a short period of time.
Last but not least, it would be best for you to find a particular time to work every day of the week. It will help you stay on track and you will be able to plan everything else you need to do in your everyday life without constantly changing your working hours.
It is really not difficult to get started on writing a book but you will definitely need to keep a consistent schedule and be persistent. These tips are what I have learned from personal experience and they are what helped me when it came to writing my own book.
